Promote your Microstock Portfolio with picWorkflow Widgets

The first set of portfolio promotion tools for picWorkflow members has just been launched. You can now easily create your own customisable ajax widgets for your blog (wordpress, blogger, typepad, etc etc all supported) or any other website.

The picWorkflow widgets are designed to attract visitors on your website to your images and to present them with selections of the best of your portfolio to turn browsers into image-buyers without ugly text links or static and uninspiring banners.

The power of a widget

To create a widget for your site, head over to the microstock portfolio promotion tools on picWorkflow. This is a demonstration with my own portfolio:

To install your widget, generate the source-code and simply paste it into a “text or html” widget for whatever blogging platform you use, or if you’re the technical type paste it into your theme. The default styling is light, yet subtley eye-catching to draw your visitors towards your portfolio instead of displaying simple static images. It can also easily be themed to fit your site anyway you like if you you what CSS is.

If you’re feeling adventurous it can also be output ‘full-size’ by setting the maximum number of rows and/or columns and be added as a wordpress ‘page’ as a full microstock portfolio browser for your existing website, no fuss 🙂

Each ajax portfolio widget also adds a benefit to SEO for your portfolio on the major microstock agencies (support for others coming soon), the widget (in full-mode) creates hard-links to your agency portfolios in your own site to increase the probability of image buyers finding your-own images through search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo, and the clean and dynamic interface makes sure your images can be easily accessed, searched and your images licensed by your existing website visitors too.

Build your microstock portfolio promotion widget now!

There’s a lot more to come, including social media, micro-sites, feeds and announcements in future too. How would you like to promote your portfolio better and which agencies should I add to the widgets next?

Heya. Currently as this uses one of my other services as a backbone (stockphotofeeds.com) it uses my own partner ids behind the widget. I’ve decided to do this as it helps to pay for the people using only the free service level on picWorkflow. I would like to make this optional in future for accounts who use paid services, but at the moment I need to get a little from that side so I can continue to grow development of picWorkflow to make it a sustainable service rather than just another flash-in-the-pan 🙂

The artist/account IDs used to get each agency’s image-list is set on the credentials page. For Shutterstock it uses the ‘token’ field, for Bigstock there is a separate field shown on the promote page (if you have not filled it already) which asks you to give the gallery-name for Bigstock since it can be manually set to something other than your username in Bigstock’s account settings on their site. I will be adding support for more agencies to the widget soon so will update the credentials page to include a ‘gallery name’ field for agencies like Bigstock, but in the meantime, if you need to reset your bigstock galleryname please drop me a message from your picWorkflow registered email address or through the picworkflow contact page.
